Ana Llinares & Tessa Mearns: CLILNetLE at Midterm - Achievements and Future Directions

Educators and researchers from across Europe came together for the CLILNetLE Teacher Training School, coordinated by Anna Llinares and Tessa Mearns. The training focused on bridging theory and practice in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and disciplinary literacies.

The event played a key role in the CLILNetLE COST Action by offering both teachers and researchers the chance to engage with current frameworks—particularly Cognitive Discourse Functions—and apply them in real classroom settings. A standout feature was the collaboration with a local bilingual school, which provided participants with hands-on experience in applying these concepts.

Planning centered on creating meaningful connections between international participants and the local professional community. With support from Leiden University’s professional development team and Dutch teacher educators, the program offered a blend of workshops, school visits, and collaborative activities.

This training school not only supported professional development but also generated valuable insights for the ongoing work within the CLILNetLE network. It was a powerful example of how research and practice can come together to enhance education across contexts.
