Insights from the COST Action Meeting in Leiden, Netherlands

This video takes you inside the COST Action meeting in Leiden, where Working Groups 1 and 5 came together for insightful discussions and collaborative progress.

Working Group 5: Bridging Theory and Practice

At the start of the meeting, Yasemin Bayyurt, leader of Working Group 5, and Elena Kováciková, vice leader, discuss the group's progress and key achievements. They reflect on the journey of the CLILNetLE network and emphasize how WG5 plays an overarching role—connecting theoretical frameworks (WG1) with practical applications.

Bringing these two groups together in Leiden was no coincidence. WG1 focuses on theory, while WG5 translates that into actionable teacher training materials, drawing valuable input from all other working groups. This synergy has been instrumental in refining the conceptualization of disciplinary literacies.

So, where does WG5 stand now?

  • They've gathered examples of best practices and analyzed reports from other working groups.
  • They’re leveraging initial data from surveys and studies to develop teacher training materials—currently their top priority.
  • The next steps involve piloting these materials, refining them based on analysis, and ultimately presenting them to policymakers and stakeholders.

Beyond the work itself, the face-to-face nature of the Leiden meeting proved invaluable. These interactions sparked fresh ideas, deepened collaborations, and reinforced the importance of in-person discussions in driving the project forward.
